How an engagement actually unfolds.
Most advisory sites describe what a firm does. Fewer explain how the work actually happens once you sign on. Here’s the shape of a typical engagement with us, from first conversation to handover.
1. Discovery
We start by understanding the actual problem, not the version of it that’s already been written into a project brief. That usually means conversations with the people closest to the work as well as the people commissioning it, and a look at what’s already been tried and why it didn’t stick.
2. Assessment
We assess against the standards that will actually matter when someone reviews the work later: a regulator, an auditor, a board, a customer. This is where we identify what’s genuinely at risk versus what merely looks untidy, since those two things get treated very differently in a good plan.
3. Roadmap
We turn the assessment into a sequenced plan, not a slide of everything at once. Priorities are ordered by actual exposure and effort, with clear ownership at each step, so the roadmap survives being handed to someone else to execute.
4. Delivery
Where you want us to deliver directly, we do. Where you want to build internal capability instead, we work alongside your team so the knowledge stays in-house once we leave. Either way, we stay accountable to the whole plan we wrote, including the parts that turned out to be hard.
The test we hold ourselves to isn’t whether the plan looks complete. It’s whether it still makes sense to the person who has to defend it in a room we’re not in.
What stays consistent across every engagement:
- You always know who is accountable for a decision, including us
- Recommendations are traceable to a specific risk or requirement, not general best practice
- We say when something doesn’t need fixing, not just when it does
- Engagements end with a plan your team can run without us, unless you’ve asked us to stay
